Xbox 360 and the Worst Games

By Taylor Sanders

Let's face it; the Xbox 360 has been around for quite some time already and since it first appeared on the shelves, we've had the opportunity to play some fantastic games, many of which have left us with very fond memories. Of course it only stands to reason that we'd love to see the production companies producing a few more. On the other hand, we've also seen a few titles which leave a lot to be desired.

Let's face it, games are not cheap and when we have to fork out a lot of money for a game, we expect it to be good. At the very least, we don't expect the production companies to release a game simply because they feel their profits need to be boosted. What makes it worse, is that a game can still be good even if it has a poor story line. Even when the story is useless, providing there are some truly memorable characters, most of us will be happy.

For example, let's take a look at "Two World's", a game which very few enjoyed simply because the graphics were deplorable. Over and above the graphics, the sound quality was equally as bad. If you ever had the chance to play the game and you're honest, you'll agree that it was a total failure.

Then along came "Hour-of-Victory" which you may not have heard of considering it was a total failure. Unfortunately, if this game had been released a year or two sooner then it may have been enjoyable. By the time it was released however, the graphics and sound quality simply couldn't be compared to other games. Furthermore, at the time it was released, it certainly couldn't compete against games such as the "Call-of-Duty" franchise. All in all, it was simply terrible.

Vampire games are brilliant are they not? Maybe so, but that was certainly not the case with "Vampire Rain". As any gamer can attest to, a stealth game should prove to be a challenge as is the case with Splinter Cell. After all, fighting vampires should really be a challenge but if you can get past them by sneaking about, then it defeats the object of the game. It's hardly surprising then that Vampire Rain became an instant failure. What made it even worse was the fact that so many scenes had been cut, not to mention the game took forever to load. Even the sound and the graphics could only be described as being average at best.

Next we look at Jumper, the videogame based on the movie. When this game is originally intended for a cheap machine, we have to give the programmers a medal for making things look a bit shinier and also better looking for the new platform. Not in Jumper's case, though. Pure PS2 graphics, from beginning to end. This is an insult.

There are many bad games out there, and we haven't even started going through the list yet. Unfortunately, many of us are victims to this and there is nothing we can do about it once we have paid for the game. We have to learn by our mistakes.

If you really don't fancy taking your chances as to whether or not a game is good or bad, then you should ideally do a bit of research before you part with your money. In fact, there's no excuse not to, considering that there are many websites offering unbiased reviews. - 29872

Full HD TV Explained

By Marshall Denyer

When buying a television, it is important to learn the difference between full High Definition, HD ready and analog sets with HD converters. Full HD is a term that refers only to sets designated as full HD LCD TV sets or full HD plasma sets.

Full HD - High Definition broadcasts can be received directly only by a set with 1080p pixels. Sometimes this is listed with another number, as in the numbers: 1920 x 1080p. If it is 1080p, then it is either a HD LCD TV set or a full HD plasma set. Unlike analog or HD ready sets, full High Definition LCD TV sets can receive actual high definition television signals at their normal 1080p rate. It can play HD DVDs and blu-ray disks as maximum quality. Like full HD LCD TV sets, full HD plasma sets are fully capable of receiving and displaying 1080p broadcasts.

For blu-ray technology, which is also filmed in this 1080p high definition, these sets are perfectly compatible. These sets reproduce blu-ray disks exactly as they were filmed. Other sets cannot claim quite this high a quality.

HD Ready - HD ready capability exists in sets with a pixel rate of 728i or 1080i. Each set includes a built-in high definition tuner for displaying broadcasts with higher pixel ratings. LCDs and Plasmas have fixed-pixel displays that use pixels to display television images. If the number of pixels is 728, then it has 728 pixels per vertical inch. If the number is 1080, then it has 1080 pixels per vertical inch. Images increase in detail as the pixel number rises.

Set Sizes - HD ready and full HD LCD TV sets can come in smaller sizes. LCD sets actually come in small sizes such as 10 inches. Sizes used to stop as a 42 inch TV but now are as large as 60 inches. HD ready and full HD plasma sets come in 50 or 60 inch sizes usually. It is possible now to get a 42 inch TV plasma set from some manufacturers. Keep in mind that similar size does not mean the same picture quality.

HD Sets - All High Definition televisions are wide-screen. They have a ratio of 16:9 just as the HD broadcasts have a ratio of 16:9. This differs from the analog broadcast, which was a 4:3 ratio. LCDs are always widescreen due to either because they are HD ready sets or full HD LCD TV sets. Thinness is not an aspect of HD broadcast ability. It is simply a reflection of the technology used to make LCDs. Plasma sets are also widescreen, due to HD ready or full HD technology. Again, you cannot measure HD abilities by the thin size of many plasmas. This has little to do with whether or not a set is HD ready or a full HD plasma set.

HD Converter - For analog television users, an High Definition converter is a must. Almost all analog signals have been or are being replaced by digital signals. Only an HD converter can make an HD broadcast into an analog signal. Many users report that an HD converter has improved their analog picture considerably. Still, this is not a full HD picture as defined by manufacturing standards.

HDTV Online - If you watch television online, you will notice that some shows are offered as HD Online. This simply means that if your computer can broadcast at the 1080p rate, the picture will be full High Definition. If your computer cannot broadcast at this rate and must convert the rate to a lower pixel setting, then the computer can be said to be HD ready. - 29872

LED Monitors Are The Bright Choice

By Elton James

More than likely you are reading this article on an LCD or plasma monitor. These monitors are much less bulky than the older monitors that took up half of a normal sized desk. Most of these monitors have a much clearer picture than the older monitors did. If you want to take the next step, then you will want to switch to LED monitors.

LED monitors use a different back light source than your current monitor. They use LED lights placed around the perimeter of the screen for lighting. The tubes in your current monitor only have a lifespan of three to four years before they begin to loose brightness. Unfortunately, there is no way for you as a consumer to replace those tubes. If your computer begins to loose its brightness, your only choice is to replace the monitor. This continual replacement of monitors is one source of electronic waste that could be lessened by use of LED monitors.

A second disadvantage of the LCD monitors is that they are more bulky and heavy than the LED monitors. The florescent tubes require this additional thickness. LED monitors can be made quite thin, especially those that are edge lit monitors. These are the monitors that have been made possible by the technology developed for ultra thin laptops.

The florescent tubes in LCD monitors do not produce a full range of color of light. Therefore, there will be some of the LCD crystals that do not appear as bright when certain colors are lit compared to others. This may cause the image to appear to be blurry or less clear than the same image on an LED monitor.

The lower energy consumption of LED monitors is a great advantage to laptop users, especially those who are running on the battery. Additionally, LED monitors are brighter in color and have a longer lifespan before the lighting starts to dim.

Some users complain that the LED monitors are not evenly lit. This may be more of a matter of their eyes adjusting to using a new type of screen. Because the LED lights are placed around the edge of the display, the center may not be as bright, however this should not affect the overall use of the screen.

Still other users find LED screens to be too bright for their applications. Since the brightness can cause eyestrain after continued use, users are advised to find monitors that allow for brightness control. By dimming the monitor, users may reduce the amount of eyestrain they experience.

These two minor complaints should not be enough to keep you from purchasing one of the best monitors that are available today. These are the absolute thinnest monitors available. They are extremely clear and last much longer than the LCD monitors with florescent tubes.

Choosing a long life monitor is a great choice for the environment. This means that you will not need to purchase a new monitor every time you purchase a new machine. By purchasing fewer monitors, you can do your part to reduce electronic waste in landfills. Choose an LED monitor for the longer lasting monitor. A new monitor should outlast your current computer. - 29872

What You Should Know About Full HD TV

By Robbie Densmore

The full high definition (full hd tv) television goes by very many names and can sometimes be confusing. The television world has picked up with amazing speed and some have not been able to keep up with it. Some call the full high definition television the ultra high definition television. Others call it the true high density high definition television. For the technology buffs the full high definition television is simply called the 1080p.

There is no way of describing the superiority of the full hd TVs' resolution without telling you about the high definition TVs' resolution. The high definition is achieved by increasing the number of horizontal lines that run vertically on the TV to make the image. The standard definition TV had 480. The hd TV has a maximum of 1080i. The full hd TV comes in at double that of the high definition TV.

Being of higher quality the full high definition TV will therefore come at a different price too. The high definition TV's start from anywhere around three hundred and fifty dollars and go up to about five thousand dollars. The full high definition TV is priced at almost double this price. If you ask me though I think it is very worth it. Some may say they would rather wait for the prices to come down but this will take quite a while.

If you want to experience the maximum video sharpness of the full hd TV then you will know that size really does matter. If you compare a full high definition TV that is less than forty two inches with a hd TV you will almost not notice a difference. If you therefore intend to buy a full hd TV then you better do it big.

As with many other new technologies out there the competition between the full high density brands is at an all time high. This can be very confusing when you go out to the store to buy yours. I therefore suggest that you do some research to find the world's leading brands. Some of the brands that I would recommend are; Pioneer kuro, Panasonic viera and the Sony bravia.

The full hd and high definition televisions have their own formatting. The picture clarity cannot be appreciated on these televisions if the media is the old standard format. They have to be put in high resolutions beginning from 720 to 1080i. They are put on a different type of disc too. One of the most common of these is the blue ray disc.

After one has chosen to buy a full high definition TV they will still have a few more sub choices to go through. One of the most common choices that they will have to make is whether to go with the plasma or the LCD full high definition. The plasma full high definition is apparently supposed to have more realistic motion that is more apparent as the screen size increases.

From there on the only other choice you would have would be the size. This may be according to the size of your room or the size of the wall unit you will be putting it in. - 29872

How to Get the Video Games You Want While Saving Money

By Philip Woods

Have you seen how much the video games cost now? A lot of them are very expensive. A game can often go as high as $100. Only one game can cost this and think of the number of games these gamers own. The pricier games are new releases usually. How can you successfully get the games you want and save money too?

You can of course rent the games instead of buying them, the movie rental stores offer this service. This lets you try the game out before buying it, this way you don't have to keep a game you don't enjoy. Because they cost so much you don't need to spend too much money for a game that you may not like to play.

You can also find stores that rent video games along with the playing systems for them. This offers you the choice of paying a fee monthly or just renting when you want.

Many of these stores also have previously played games for sale. This is a much cheaper alternative to buying them brand new. They guarantee the games as well so if something happens that it will not work, you can always take it back and exchange for another.

There are rental clubs online too that you buy a membership to and then they mail you some games you select on a monthly basis. The big advantage for this is that you pay a monthly fee, they send you the games you want and you get to play it until you tire of it. They you just send back the game and a different one is mailed to you.

With a bit of looking you can find other methods for getting video games cheaper than buying the games new. Check out your pawn shops that are near you. Many will need cash and pawn their games intending on getting them out of hock, but can't. A pawn shop then sells the games at inexpensive prices offering you a bargain.

Thrift stores and flea markets are other places to find the systems and the games to go with them. At flea markets you can usually bargain down the prices if you disagree with them. Most of the vendors at the flea markets off their merchandise are lower prices than the items would cost new even if they still are in their boxes.

Video gamers can find clubs online too. These clubs are great for buying or swapping games you wish to try. This is a great choice for finding games you have tried out and wish to add to the ones you already own for a discounted price. You can also find games that are older as well. - 29872

Xbox 360 and Mass Effect 2

By Taylor Sanders

Xbox 360 had its first incarnation of Mass Effect in 2007, said to be the best of its kind in games' history, and when players finished this game, they wanted to keep going. This particular game had a great ending, and it also had some of the best characters most of us who played Mass Effect had ever seen. They were multidimensional, and were so real that they stayed in your mind long after the game was complete. Games like Mass Effect have in fact put Xbox 360 firmly in the lead as far as sales went, and Mass Effect earned a lot of money for Bioware.

If you have played this game on Xbox in recent days, then you probably still have the game saved. If you played it when it was first out, and you deleted the game even though you loved it, you might be sorry to hear that you'll be missing out on a very big plus for you.

That's because if you saved the first Mass Effect file, keep it until early next year, because that's when the Xbox 360's Mass Effect 2 is going to be released. With this, you can import your character saved game from Mass Effect; that will mean you start Mass Effect 2 at exactly the same place you left off.

However, that's not all the good news. What's really good about this is that the moral standing of your character and the choices made in the first Mass Effect game goes right on into the second game. These choices also affect your second game, and if you save your file, you'll basically have one long unbroken experience that seamlessly transitions into the next level.

Have you seen the teaser trailer for Mass Effect 2? You probably remember when the credits rolled at the end of the first Mass Effect. In the trailer, though, we get a close-up of a familiar armor suit, with "N7" emblazoned on the chest. Ah-ha, it's Shepherd, the main character.

Only, it's not. Actually, a Geth soldier wears the suit, and we learn that Shepherd was killed in action. However, these accounts, as they say, were greatly exaggerated, and he's actually back in Mass Effect 2, with a whole new threat to face.

What should you know about Mass Effect 2? Well, first of all, it shares its love of multiple endings with Mass Effect, so there'll be some more of those. Primarily, you'll be on a suicide mission, and the beginning of the game will tell you that. Of course, Shepherd and his team already know this.

You and your entire team can die or you can live. This all depends on the decisions you make throughout the game, and these decisions decide your outcome. However, if your character dies in Mass Effect 2, his death is permanent, which means you will be able to play him Mass Effect 3. - 29872

What To Consider When Buying High Definition Television

By Ray Kreiger

High definition television is also most commonly known as HDTV. It is the new form of television broadcasting and manufacturing. It is all under a digital platform which requires less bandwidth than its predecessor, the standard definition television. The standard definition television runs under analogue broadcasting systems which are slowly but surely being phased out today.

The awing aspect of the high density television comes in its high resolution pictures. To achieve this it has been designed in two standard formats. To make a picture there are horizontal lines that join to bring you the image. In the old standard television these are four hundred and eighty lines. The high density television however has either seven hundred and twenty or one thousand eighty lines. The image is therefore more detailed.

There are many things to consider before going out and buying a high density television. I would begin by casing the room in which I want the television set to be in. For example there are high density TVs that cannot be watched from close. If you have a tiny room then you will not be enjoying the benefits of having a HDTV set.

The next thing I would look at was how much I am willing to spend on this high definition television. This will weigh heavily on what I get when I go down to the store. High definition televisions range from anywhere around three hundred and fifty dollars to five thousand dollars. The price will always affect what we can walk out of the store with.

You will then have to consider what you are going to be mainly using the high definition television for. If you will mainly be watching rented movies then you would want to buy the maximum resolution of one thousand and eighty. The movies are standardized to come ready to play in this resolution.

If your main purpose is to be watching DVD or blue ray then you can go for the 1080 option. The high definition TV will however not show any difference with a normal TV if you want to use a standard DVD player to watch movies. You will have to reach deeper into your pocket and buy a HD player.

High density television sets may or may not come with built in tuners. This is what receives the high definition signal. Without it your television set is just back to the standard television. This will be another huge thing to consider when choosing.

If you still have a little money stashed somewhere there is more you can do to maximize on having a high definition television. Make sure that you get the best cables in the market to increase on the clarity of your picture. Make sure all the connections are correct and neatly done. High quality cables and connections can make all the difference in your audio and sound experience. If you are done hooking it up and you sit down to a fuzzy picture that would be sad. It would not be the high definition television at fault but your poor wiring and connection.

The only other thing to be done was to now make the most out of the audio. Spend a bit more on surround speakers and see the difference. You may never have to go to a cinema again. - 29872

Buying A LED Television For Your Home

By Bobby Onions

What does LED television stand for? Well it means the technology that is used to operate it are called light emitting diodes. These types of televisions have been around for many years. People have used them before, but then LCD and Plasma TVs came out. However, the new LED televisions that are coming out will leave you wondering why you ever switched.

Way ahead of the standard choices of televisions that you find to buy, the LED televisions have made a huge splash. The picture quality of these newer LEDs is looking better than a Plasma or LCD television can offer you. So let's look at the other advantages you can see with LED televisions.

On LED televisions the screen is made up of several of those light emitting diodes. This allows the screen to emit light to create a bright picture. Other methods are reflecting the light off. Pictures for the new LED televisions have been brighter plus other advantages are still to be mentioned.

One of which is the reaction time of turning on an LED television compared to others on the market. Since it's using a one way electronic semiconductor it turns on quickly. But other LCD and Plasma TVs experience a delay and also a blurring of images. Also if you have ever had a drop in electric current you will notice other televisions will lose color. Not the case with LED televisions.

Other advantages to LED Televisions include "eyelids", which are a shade that you can place on the LED. It will help reduce glare when the sun or a bright light hits the screen. This will also let you see the images on the television when you're standing at the side.

LED televisions will offer you colors that are richer and closer to real. Plus the cost of these new LED televisions are a lot less than what you can spend on LCDs or Plasma. Anyone who knows how much prices can be will appreciate this fact.

You have all sorts of sizes that are offered on the LED televisions on the market too. So it's not like you're going to have to spend a huge amount of money. You can get a 48"LED television and spend close to 40% less on the price of it over the closest LCD television choice in that exact size.

Better pictures, richer color, and so much more you can be offered with LED televisions. It looks like they have answered a challenge that was given by those Plasma and LCDs that came out on the market. Paying less money but getting a reaction time for turning it on that is quicker, and everything else you get? How can you even think of not looking into buying a new LED television now?

Check out the new models of LED televisions on the market, save a lot of money. Heck, why not buy a new Blu-Ray to go with it. Your family will love the new television. - 29872

This is just for one single game and think of how many games the average person owns for his or her gaming The more expensive games are usually the new releases. How can you save cash on buying these games that you like to play?

Other great places to find games and systems at discounted prices are thrift stores and flea markets. You can even do price haggling at the flea markets to get the price down even more. Even if you don't get the exact price you want it will still be lower than new. Most of the flea market booth owners will have their products marked with prices that are much less than the new ones even when they are still in original packaging.

There are also online clubs for video gamers. This can be another way of exchanging or buying games that you may want to try. This is another option of finding ones you have already played and know you want to add to your collection without paying an expensive price. Full HDTV Television

By James Junior

A popular topic in televisions nowadays is full HDTV (full high definition television). This is due to the full changeover of digital television (DTV) signal on June 12, 2009. With this transition complete, everyone has access to HDTV signal. However, not everyone has HD display because in order to get it, you must have an HDTV display television.

When talking about HDTV, the quality of the picture (or high resolution) is the main point. Anyone who chose to purchase or obtain an HD converter box still has an analogue picture on a CRT screen. The resolution of an NTSC-analogue TV described as 480i. The "i" in the description refers to the word "interlaced". The reason why is because the CRT tube in the analogue television only 240 horizontal lines available, but the television camera has 480 lines. Therefore, in order to present the look of a more vertical resolution, the television signal is interlaced. If you consider the aspect ratio of 4:3, using basic mathematics, you can see why the analogue TV resolution can be depicted as 640 x 480i.

So how do HDTV and full HDTV differ from analogue TV? Certainly the most obvious feature is the resolution. Standard HDTV has a resolution of 720i or 720p and full HDTV has 1080i or 1080p. The 'p' signifies progressive scanning versus interlaced, i.e. all the vertical scans are done at the same time. With a 16:9 aspect ratio in HDTV this results in 1520 x 720 pixels for standard HDTV and 1920x1080 pixels for full HDTV.

The full HDTC is the product that is most favourable, but on TVS with a smaller screen than 42 inches, the difference in the resolution between the standard and full HDTVs isn't noticeable. Therefore, any TV that has a smaller screen than 42 inches is only available in standard HDTV. So, if you want to have full JDTV, you will need to purchase a TV that is 42 inches or larger.

Three choices of screen technologies are available for full HDTV. These are rear projection HDTV, full HD plasma TV and full HD LCD TV. Rear projection HDTVs are still available but this technology appears on the decline with many manufactures dropping out of the market. Therefore, one is left with full HD plasma TV and full HD LCD TV to choose between. Since a resolution of 1080p is assumed, other factors affecting image quality to consider are response time and refresh rate, contrast ratio and color reproduction.

Full HDTV plasma screens have a broad range in color, are very bright, and can have very large screens. Display screens of full HDTV plasma TVs can be up to 58 inches in size. Since the display panel is only about 2.5 inches thick, the televisions are only about 4 to 6 inches thick. Though there are claims of contrast ratios as high as 100K in plasma TVs, the highest contrast currently available in stores is 30K. The response time is .001 milliseconds while the refresh frequencies are 600 Hz. The advantages of a plasma TV over an LCD are that the screen has a better color reproduction and also has a wider viewing angle. Because of the fast response time, plasma TVs are great for viewing fast moving film such as sports.

Of course full HDTV plasma is not perfect. The power requirements can be as high as 500 watts for some large screen versions and because the screen is made of glass, glare can be a problem. Plasma displays are heavier compared to their LCD counterparts but can be wall mounted.

Full HDTV LCDs have the same resolution as plasma HDTV screens. The effect of a slower response time in LCD TVs could possibly be ghosting on fast moving images. However the refresh rates have decreased to around 2 milliseconds with 240 Hz. The contrast ratios have also been enhanced to 30K. The biggest advantage of the HDTV LCD televisions is price since they are less expensive than plasmas.

A note of caution, except for resolution, when comparing specifications many reviewers question their accuracy and their meaningfulness to your viewing experience. My advice is judge for your self. In conclusion, barring financial and/or physical restraints or simple preference for smaller TV size, full HDTV is the obvious choice. If striving for a home theatre experience, make sure your full HDTV is compatible with the entire system you are planning. - 29872

High Definition Television - Your Next Great Electronic Purchase

By Ian Tyrrell

When the work day is over and you have done all of your afternoon running you will be very happy to snuggle up in your pyjamas and watch your favourite television programs. This is an excellent way to unwind and will be even better when you are watching television on your high definition television.

After you have experienced the depth and clear picture quality that can only come from a high definition television you will be left to wonder why it took you so long to purchase one. Your idea of good television will be changed forever.

High definition televisions were created to give the appearance that the screen is alive. The creators wanted you to feel like you were a part of the action or sitting right up front during the suspense. They have captured each of these things in the picture and you are sure to be amazed.

Some of the older televisions did not have good color balance. If there was a section on the screen that was supposed to be shaded or black it often times looked snowy or more grey than black. In high definition the black is truly black and you will see the shaded areas as true shade.

Watching your favourite sports team in high definition is usually an exciting time. The excitement is raised tenfold when you are watching it in high definition. As the players run down the field you might be able to see every blade of grass. Have you ever had the problem of identifying a number on a jersey because the picture was not clear? You will surely not have that problem in high definition. When a play goes right or wrong, you will know right away who is responsible.

When high definition blew up and everyone started purchasing these televisions, the actors and actresses had to be very careful in how they were dressed or made up on the screen. Because the picture is so much clearer, you can see every bump or flaw on the faces of your favourite star.

As an owner of a high definition television you will probably get many more requests to have gatherings at your house. Whether it is to watch the game or to watch a great movie, they will surely want to flock to your television. They may even be tempted to purchase a high definition television set of their own.

You may find that the family gatherings, like Thanksgiving, are being held at your house as well. There will be nothing better than filling up on a great Thanksgiving dinner and then relaxing on the sofa to watch your favourite football teams square off. You will probably not mind it because then you can see the play in high definition as well.

Your opinion of what a good television picture should look like will definitely be adjusted once you have purchased and set up the television and watched your first program in high definition. The difference is completely awesome.

If you are worried about the cable companies, you should know that most of them offer high definition programs that will look stunning on your television. If you are a true television lover, call your cable company today and tell them that you have purchased a high definition television and you are ready to be set up for the magic. - 29872

Dumbo, Disney's 4th Animated Classic

By Steve Collins

In 1941, Walt Disney released his fourth animated feature, Dumbo. Based on the children's book of the same name, written by Helen Aberson and illustrated by Harold Perl, Dumbo follows the exploits of Jumbo, Jr., a baby elephant. Because of his unnaturally large ears, which give him the ability to fly, Jumbo, Jr. is nicknamed "Dumbo." His only friend, other than his mother, is Timothy the mouse.

When Disney submitted his first cut of Dumbo to RKO, their distributor at the time, the studio was dismayed to find the running time was only 64 minutes. George J. Schaefer, the president of RKO, demanded Disney either edit the feature down to a short film or beef it up to 70 minutes. Disney refused, and insisted Dumbo be released as an A picture, in the maximum number of theaters nation-wide. Schaefer reluctantly agreed.

It cost Disney only $813,000 to finish Dumbo, which was approximately half the cost of Snow White and a third of the cost of Pinocchio. Along with Snow White, it would be one of the only two feature to turn a profit for Disney during the 1940s. Its original release, in 1941, went on to gross $1.3 million - a monumental success at the time. Indeed, according to Wikipedia, Dumbo was supposed to grace the December cover of Time magazine, only to be dumped at the last minute to cover the December 1941 attack on Pearl Harbor. Indeed, the Second World War would nearly break Disney's fledgling studio as they were quickly drafted by the United States government to create a number of training and propaganda cartoons for the Armed Forces.

Dumbo garnered the nomination for and subsequently won the 1941 Academy Awards for Original Music Score. It was also nominated for Best Song for Frank Churchill and Ned Washington's "Baby Mine" and won the 1947 Cannes Film Festival award for Best Animation Design. The popularity of the movie was capitalized on again during the 1949 re-release, making a tremendous profit for both RKO and Disney.

Dumbo was one of the first features to be aired on television as part of Disney's anthology series, solidifying its popularity for an entire new generation of American viewers. In 1981, it was the first Disney film to be released on VHS. In 2006, the 60th Anniversary Special Edition was released to wide acclaim, while a special edition "Big Top Edition" was released on DVD. - 29872

OLED Displays

By Jean Bowie

First there was the LCD television, and then there was the Plasma television. Following that was the newly released LED television, but Sony is not stopping there. They are newly releasing the OLED television that is said to make all the other types of televisions a thing of the past.

The OLED television is something that is definitely recommended for any household. Think of a television that is completely flexible, no more than a few ounces in weight, and about as thin as a piece of cardboard. This new device has been put under the most serious tests. It is even able to be run over by a car and still work the same. "It is basically indestructible" says Sony.

OLED (short for organic light emitting diodes) TVs and displays, are constructed from a grid of transistors that make up a thin layer to for the pictures that are displayed on the screen, and because they are organic they are friendly to the environment also. They have many positives over its rivals, mainly the improvement in picture quality, plus a host of new features and the added benefit that they consume far less electricity than their LCD and plasma equivalents because they do not require to be backlit. All this from a display that not only has flexible qualities but is only millimetres thick.

The first OLED monitors are being made by Sony and Samsung SDI, but mainly Sony is leaving a big punch into the market. These televisions do not stop at just crystal clear entertainment, but also they carry onto the workplace. There are many features in this device that works great with any job and in any presentation which will blow your coworkers away. This OLED monitor is an amazing ten millimetres thin and can completely bend. There is even a prototype of a television made by Sony that is 0.9 millimetres thick.

OLED televisions and displays are such an advancement that at this early stage seem set to blow away their competitors in the LCD, LED and plasma markets. But as would be expected Sony will first start to introduce the smaller versions of they displays to the market with the larger displays planned one the market is established. Because of the advances and improvement in picture quality even the smaller displays will be so impressive that they expect them to become the market leaders, with the prospect of the large displays coming at a later date.

The light produced by the OLED televisions is actually organic. To be more technical there are organic light emitting diodes that produce the picture with highly announced quality. This comes to show you what OLED stands for. Play movies and view your home desktop at far better quality then the already amazing LED televisions. That's right you are even able to sync your computer with your television very easily. Simply connect it through a special cable that you can pick up at the local Radio Shack. This is the main thing Sony is trying to capture. They want the computer industry to flourish with these new televisions.

As for the immediate future of LED TVs and displays, we should expect to see the first Sony produced displays appearing with Samsung shortly afterwards. The first displays produced will be 13 inches in size, but this is surely the start for what is potentially a new expanding market with larger improved sets set to follow in the very near future. - 29872

Use LED Television Reviews And Choose Your Set

By John Leonard

When new technology is released, we often need help in making a choice. LED televisions are very new technology and the reviews on the sets help you to decide if this is the set for you. After reading the reviews, you may decide you cannot live without one of these new sets, or that your older set will serve just fine. Good LED television reviews help to make satisfied customers.

LCD television technology is not that old. It gave us thinner screen televisions that could hang on the wall with little floor space. Pictures were good, although they could never be true rivals to the plasma television.

The back light was the main problem with LCD televisions. In these first sets, florescent tubes provided the back light. These tubes tend to become dim in three to four years and cause the set to have to be replaced. Fluorescent tubes also do not produce a full color range, so some colors are less bright than they should have been to produce the best picture.

LED televisions are a great improvement that tries to solve these problems. LED televisions have LED lamps for back lighting. LED lamps have become popular in flash lights, Christmas lights and even home lighting. They produce a very bright, very white light that is of high quality. The lamps are very long lasting and do not have color gaps that exist in fluorescent lights. When added to a LCD television, the set can now show many more colors. LED sets are among the thinnest of all televisions available.

LED lamps consume less energy than their florescent counterparts. The lower energy usage will eventually make a difference in the total amount of energy consumed by our country.

The final difference is that with LED lighting, television sets can be made much thinner than the three inch deep sets made possible with LCD technology. Sets may soon be available that are only one-half of an inch thick. These sets will lend themselves even more to wall mounting and may need no television stand on which to sit.

LED televisions can have very large screens without the bulk of a projection television. They are great for the football season as well as for viewing movies and television shows.

When reading LED television reviews, many people are tempted to just look at numerical or star ratings. It is important when looking at these reviews to go beyond the ratings and see why people make the ratings that they do. There are some people that will write reviews that never give a bad rating to anything they review as far as the numbers go. However by reading their review you may find other very valuable information the will help with your decision.

Some people do not have it within themselves to give a perfect score, even if they are extremely satisfied with a product. Read the report to get their true opinion of a product.

Remember you need to actually view a product before purchase. The real opinion that will matter about a LED television review is your own. If you do not like the set, then read more reviews and check out more sets until you find the perfect one just for you. - 29872

Of course, considering how much money we're expected to part with, how can anyone blame us for having high hopes in terms of the production companies producing a good game. After all, considering how much money these companies make, they essentially don't have the right to release a game simply to boost their profits. Admittedly, a game doesn't necessarily need a great storyline in order for it to be good, but it does need a few things in order to make it unforgettable.

Look at the Xbox 360 game Two Worlds, for example. A few people out there will enjoy it, but the majority thought that this game had downright awful graphics. The sound was terrible and the control configuration was just bad. The great thing about the game was its online play, but that was broken as well. This game was just a complete failure in every aspect.

Another game - and it won't be a surprise if no one has heard of - is called Hour-of-Victory. The problem with this game is that it appeared on the shelves in stores a couple of years late. If you are looking for a great WW2 game, there is the Call-of-Duty franchise. The problem with HOV is the horrible sound and graphics. The level of design is awful and the artificial intelligence could have been trees instead. Let's not mention the bugs and glitches.

For your own good, you need to do some research before you purchase a game, bearing in mind that there are some websites which offer good, honest and unbiased reviews. Perhaps the old adage should apply in that you shouldn't judge a book by its cover. - 29872

Xbox 360 - Games and the Cheats

By Taylor Sanders

Many people would agree that when you are playing a game on the Xbox 360 and you hit a point where you are stuck and cannot go further, resorting to cheats is not the best way out. This is the quickest and easiest way out of any situation and most of the time it is not the best. 'You will only be fooling yourself' is the attitude of many people who are against cheating in games.

You need to remember that the game production companies design these games in such a way so that they can prove to be a challenge. The puzzles in the Tomb Raider games are in fact a perfect example, even though those who are avid fans may not find the puzzles impossible to overcome.

Obviously, a vast amount of gamers simply hate the idea of getting stuck in the middle of a game. Instead, they simply want to complete the game even if it means using cheats. However, using a cheat to complete the level on your behalf takes all the fun out of the game and makes it rather pointless.

It takes a serious gamer to admit that cheating in games is not the right thing to do. You pay lots of money for the game to begin with, and if you are supposed to sit for three hours trying to figure out how to get past a certain point in the game, then that is how it is supposed to be.

Admittedly, there are certain games which are exceptionally difficult but they've been made that way for a reason. In fact, that's exactly why the manufacturers employ game testers, in that they can establish whether or not there are any parts of a game which are impossible to get past.

If they can do it then so can you. Certain games just require more thinking time and working out than others. However, if you are a fan of action games, big guns and blowing your enemy to smithereens, then there is no doubt that puzzle games are going to be a bit of a challenge. You are used to rushing through a game and emptying dozens of magazines on your enemy, but cheating when you hit a wall does not fix it.

Many people tend to view cheating in a game as being the same as cheating in real life in that it's something you shouldn't do if you're an honest person. If you're in the middle of a game and you get stuck while your enemies are attacking you from all sides, you simply need to think a little harder rather than believing the game is ganging up on you.

If you have gone through a majority of your games by cheating, for once try to complete a game without cheating. You will not only finish the game properly, but you will also not be fooling yourself. - 29872

Will Today's Video Games Become Tomorrow's Reality?

By Philip Woods

The economy may be in a recession, but the sale of video games has not suffered. Since the early part of 2008, video game products have sold topping $1.7 billion. What does this tell you about the future of the video gaming industry? The video gaming companies continue to release new systems and games and the public continues to buy them.

The beginning system that we were once happy with is a far cry from what new systems are like today. New systems today make the Magnavox odyssey seem like just a figment of people's imagination. One day due to the technology we have today and the technology we will have in the near future, the new game systems like the PS3 and DS will suffer the same fate.

Kids are not the only ones playing video games anymore. Millions of adults and all ages are playing their PS3, Xbox 360, and even the DS games. Back in time, this was just an activity for the younger generation, males in particular. Now with all the interesting graphics seem to bring a lot more interest to them.

Motion sensitive controls are the direction where the gaming industry hopes to be heading with their new gaming systems. Removing all limits and focusing on the virtual reality world is the ultimate goal. Most people believe this is the future of the video games.

A virtual reality experience instead of just a game is where it's all headed in the game industry. Kind of like the holodeck we've seen in Star Trek. Virtually interacting with characters is now being explored. Most people would agree that it would be such a neat thing to have your own holodeck that will create scenarios for your enjoyment.

Currently, virtual reality research has shown limitations to the movements you can make while sitting in your living room. This is what the gaming industry is working on right now. Being able to read brain activity is one way to get around this. Don't laugh; there was news in May 2008, that the scientists at Pittsburgh University had a real breakthrough in this area of development.

A monkey was able to have his brain waves converted to movement within a game. A monkey used his brainwaves to control the robot's arm. The arm of the robot was manipulated by brain waves to feed the monkey. With more research, they were able to realize the monkey could control its own arm at the same time it was controlling the robot's arm.

The precursor to virtual reality games for the home is using controls that are motion sensitive. Wearing a headset and controlling actions through brain waves is the idea behind this. It's not improbable to happen in the near future. The speed of evolution within the gaming industry has been miraculous.

Games will eventually become a lot more realistic. The only issue that is holding back the gaming world from developing such a game is the cost to make the motion sensitive controls. The gaming manufacturers will not create a very expensive gaming system that consumers wouldn't buy because they couldn't or didn't like the price.

People today are much more likely to play a game that mocks the actions of real life rather than using a controller. The future is unseen in the gaming world, but video gaming may surprise us all soon. - 29872

House M.D.' Season 5 on DVD

By Jason Myers

The verdicts are mixed for Season 5 of House, M.D., which was recently released on DVD. Whether fans liked Season 5 or not, fans of the program agree that it was different. For example, Cameron and Chase were not featured as regularly, and some viewers believed that the season was more overdone than other seasons.

Viewers that enjoyed Season 5 report that the episodes connect with the audience better than in previous episodes, and that the audience learns more about how House's is impacted by his own demons. The overriding opinion is that if Hugh Laurie is in the show it will continue to be a top rated, smart television series. Even doctors who watch the show say that in spite of its sometimes overblown presentation, the show is very affecting and does give the viewers an idea of the emotions a doctor goes through when trying to make a complex diagnosis.

Those who were a little under-whelmed by House M.D. Season 5 complain that the writing varies in quality: the season starts out strong, includes some less exciting episodes in the middle, then picks up steam during the remainder of the season. One thing that did not win over many viewers was what they saw as an obvious and clumsy way of planting the seeds of a P.I. spinoff show by making use of a character that was not necessary to the story line. Other complaints were that the character arcs were less compelling and that uneven writing brought House's trademark biting wit to cross the line into unneeded shock value sometimes.

The 24 shows comprising Season 5 allow non-work and workplace boundaries to fade repeatedly among the main characters. Special appearances in Season 5 included eljko Ivanek, Mos Def, and Carl Reiner. The DVD collection includes extras covering new phases of Dr. Cuddy's life, how the program is cast, and the level of accuracy in the plots. The collection also contains a 100th episode appreciation, and extra explanation for the show about the patient with the "locked-in syndrome."

Between those fans who were enthusiastic about Season 5 and those who were not as thrilled, the vast majority declare they still like the show a lot and are anxiously awaiting House, M.D., Season 6. - 29872

Using Video Games for Relaxation

By Philip Woods

For people with stressful lives, playing video games may be more beneficial than you might think. Not only can they take your mind off troubles, but they can give you a break from the daily demands of work, the kids and keeping up with household chores.

It's like you enter another world, when you play video games, which can be refreshing and makes you forget all about the things that have bothered you throughout the day. Stress that bothers you in real life seems to disappear, when you are focusing on something else. It helps you to forget all about that demanding boss or making it home in time to get dinner ready for the kids. You have less time to dwell on the stressful situations when your mind is focused on something else.

Relaxing the mind and body lets you forget about worry and stress, and distracting video games can make you forget about things that might be troublesome or things you are looking for answers to. Concentrating on winning a video game lets you think of something else entirely and can help you get things off your mind which have you frustrated.

Video games can let you have some control over your involvement in the game and consequently, give you a feeling of being in charge again. Sometimes, work has a way of making you feel like you have no control and that is part of what causes stress. If you win, a sense of accomplishment can build your confidence and self esteem through role playing games and becoming the hero.

This is also beneficial for children. There are some children who do not seem to fit in with others very well. They may just be shy or they are not popular. When they play video games, they are in charge and the sense of power may help to boost their confidence levels. This in turn may help with situations they face in reality. It may help them to find friends who have the same interests.

Video games can improve concentration because focusing on the game helps them win, which they can adapt to school work and other things they will encounter in everyday life. Results that are achieved through video games can carry through to other parts of their lives.

The sense of accomplishment that comes from winning the game is another benefit, whether you are a child or an adult. The more difficult each level of a game becomes, the more confidence that is generated. It is one of the beneficial improvements that can come from playing video games because feeling good about yourself helps you have the confidence to handle everyday problems.

Mentally challenging video games seem more plentiful today and they challenge the user to become more skilled. Patience and perseverance comes with each level that gets more difficult to master, but practice makes perfect, which is a good lesson for children and adults.

Taking yourself to another world is part of the benefit of video games, because they let you leave the present behind for a short period of time, which gives you a break from the stress and feelings that make it hard to focus. A little time out of reality is one of the benefits of video games and sometimes everybody needs a little break now and then, which is what video games provide. - 29872

LED Televisions Are The Latest And Greatest

By Jed Young

As the days pass technology seems to take giant leaps forward. This is true also for the consumer electronics industry and in particular television technology. LED Televisions are the latest crop of consumer electronics televisions to hit the market. They offer much better picture quality and many more functions. Various manufacturers call it by various names but because the television uses LEDs I guess the name is fitting for this technology. We will take a glimpse in what you can expect from these televisions.

The name or term LED Televisions has been widely used by Samsung electronics even though the television is not entirely composed of LEDs and they are not responsible for making up the picture. The job of these LEDs is to produce brighter pictures by giving the LCD panel backlight support. This is how LED Televisions are able to produce such vivid pictures.

There are various types of televisions on the market however the major difference you will see in both conventional LCDs and LED televisions is both in result as well as internal technology. One of the things that will first catch your eye is the television's capability to produce very dark shades of black and other bright colors.

Now LED Televisions are slim especially when it comes to Edge-LED technology. This technology helps television manufacturers manufacture much thinner televisions that have a far lower power consumption when compared to ordinary LCD televisions. This television is almost 40% more power efficient than regular LCD televisions on the market.

LED Televisions can also provide for a much broader array of color gamut. This is especially true in areas where RGB backlighting is used.

These LED televisions also have an excellent array of supporting technology that enables the television to go beyond what normal LCDs can produce. For instance an array of LEDs are lined on the back of the LCD panel and the light is reflected and evenly distributed across the panel using various devices. The diffusion technology used is responsible for lighting up the back so that pictures as well as dark shades of various colors appear life like.

When you weigh the benefits of conventional LCDs to LED televisions it's easy to see that there are far more benefits with the latter technology. Everything apart it helps you save energy as compared to LCD technology. You will also see some of the best pictures you have ever seen in a television not to mention the array of functions that you will have at your finger tips. However its only the price you need to get your head around.

There are various types of LED Televisions on the market today which are manufactured by various consumer electronics companies. Each and every one is slightly different in the sense that they use their own technology to ensure good high picture quality. When choosing a television make sure that you compare it with others in the same category. Make sure that it has all the functions that you are looking for in a television. You also need to pay attention to the price as well. - 29872

Full HD TV Buying Considerations

By Hermione Cook

It's more than likely that you have seen the hundreds of HD TV adverts scattered all over the papers, on TV and on the Internet. The problem is however that not all high definition TV is Full HD TV. There are hundreds of TV models out there which offer a higher definition picture quality which is not actually up to high definition quality standards, and will not give you the experience you wanted if for example you wanted to watch a Blu Ray DVD. By ensuring you are buying a Full HD TV you will be getting the best viewing experience possible from HD TV.

You have choice of LCD or Plasma when buying a Full HD TV both types are available in 1080p or 1080i. This in itself can be confusing and the choice of specifications can soon become overwhelming. A 42 inch TV size is probably the most common size of television as they are suitable for most living rooms and other larger rooms. Cost obviously comes into it but with the price of HD TV decreasing all the take time to consider your options.

If youre considering a Full HD TV one of your first decisions is between Plasma and LCD sets. Full HD Plasma TV sets are known to have a better picture quality. LCD displays tend to have a longer life span than plasmas but due to improvements in plasma display quality and screen saving features, pixel burn is not really an issue and the expected viewing life of plasmas is not an issue for the average owner. Plasmas are however more expensive than their LCD equivalents.

By far the more prevalent HD technology is Full HD LCD TV. The issue of screen burn and shorter life span do not come into the equation with LCD televisions. These type of televisions have good quality pictures and refresh rates but the colours produced by plasma displays still outperform LCD TVs. Due to these qualities, Full HD LCD TV sets make it a great choice for gamers and the fast paced high detail action produced by modern games consoles. The generally cheaper prices of todays LCD TVs are also of benefit to shoppers with less to spend.

A HD TV converter is not all they are made out to be. The converter is capable transforming a high definition signal and outputting a signal that can be displayed on an old analogue television set. It can also work in reverse by taking an analogue signal and converting it as an output for a HD TV, the picture quality may be improved by the features of your Full HD TV set but at the end of the day it is still an analogue signal.

All HD TVs are not equal and HD is not the same as Full HD TV. HD ready sets are usually 720p and are better suited to smaller size screens laptops and computers. When looking for the best HD experience then 1080p or 1080i has a visible improvement over 720p sets which is more noticeable with larger screen sizes. Be sure to look at the specification of televisions before handing over your cash, 1080p is the true Full HD TV.

1080i has a native resolution of 1280 pixels by 1080 pixels and still meets full HD standards. 1080p is 1920 pixels by 1080 pixels, but combined with the progressive scanning the viewing experience will be more pleasant to your eye. So if youre in the market for a Full HD TV, and you're on a budget then the cheaper 1080i models will provide an adequate viewing experience, but if 1080p is in your price range then this is your only option.

Despite looking like a complicated affair, the decisions involved in buying a Full HD TV are quite simple. If you want the best viewing experience, a television to enhance your home gaming needs, and a set to do your Blu Ray DVDs justice. Then a full HD TV is the way to go, if you do your homework and choose wisely then you won't need a second mortgage either. - 29872

LED Televisions Have Hit The Market

By Jed Young

The latest trend to hit the consumer electronics market is LED Televisions. LED stands for light emitting diode so as the name suggests the television is composed of a large number LEDs which are used to produce a picture on your television screen. This might be a very simplistic explanation of things but this is how the technology works in a nutshell.

The term LED Televisions is something that Samsung has widely used and it has been under much debate if the television should be called an LED television since it's not entirely composed of LEDs. However the job of these LEDs is to light up the LCD display and in turn produce great shades of various colors and deep dark colors which means that it improves over all picture quality.

When you look at televisions there is a big difference between the picture quality and technology of conventional LCD televisions versus LED Televisions. From a point of view of a lay person the picture quality is much better with the television able to produce very dark blacks, and bright colors.

LED Televisions are also extremely slim owing to the edge-LED lighting technology. The current models you see on the market are around an inch think. They are also less power hungry when compared to conventional LCD televisions. Experts believe that they can save as much as 40% more electricity than conventional LCD televisions of a similar size.

There is also a much wider color gamut the television can deal with as compared to regular LCDs. This is especially true in those areas where RGB type backlighting is also used.

There are several methods that are used for backlighting LCD panels. By using either white or RGB (Red, Green and blue) LED arrays which are placed behind the panel. The Edge-LED lighting technology uses white colored LEDs which are arranged around the inside of the frame of the television using a special light diffusion panel which is perfectly designed to spread the rays of light evenly behind the panel.

One of the biggest of the many benefits of having an LED backlight is that it offers a lower level of power consumption as well as very high brightness. When you compare it to conventional LCD lighting there are also color advantages. These are something which cannot be achieved with regular LCD technology. However one of the biggest barriers to wide usage of LED television is the cost of purchasing the unit. As time passes the prices are lowering though.
