If you are a beginner to gaming but would like to get into it, there are a few things you should know. One of them is which gaming consoles are the best, and how much you can expect to pay for them. Another concern is how well the graphics are compared to a PC game, as well as fluidity of play. This may seem a little complex, but it is really about how well you can play a game, and how good it's going to be.

There are three major gaming platforms available today, They are the Nintendo Wii, X-Box360, and Playstation Three. In the hand held gaming modules, Playstation Portable and Nintendo DS are the top brands. Any of these systems are going to be a big investment, usually over one hundred dollars brand new.

Nintendo has always been a company that thinks out of the box, and the Wii is no exception. While there are a few single player games, the Wii is intended for family and group activities. Concentrating on the use of the Wii paddle, a set of sensor controllers gets people up and moving, whether it is actually swinging you arms in a golfing simulation, or even using the controllers for exercising.

If you aren't concerned about the realistic nature of graphics, and want to get motivated even when playing video games, this console is the one for you and your family. It retails for around $250, and has many optional accessories, like the exercise mat, a steering wheel and much more.

X-Box360 has many features that gamers are looking for. It has excellent graphics, controllers that are better fitting for the hands than earlier models, and have interactive internet capabilities. You can learn how to download Xbox360 games, with a patch that is easily downloaded to the unit itself, or with a patch CD. The availability of games are better, and it has better internet capabilities.

You can get different versions of the Xbox 360 one is the Arcade version, which has no memory and does not enable the playing of the older games for Xbox. You can also select the Elite model, which has a hard drive of 120GBs, which is twice the size of the regular model. The cost for these models go from $200 to $400, dependent upon which model you purchase. Most recommendations state that the models with at least a 60GB hard drive are the ones you should get.

For a good all around gaming system, that not only can play almost all of the old PS2 and PS1 games, but is also a blue ray DVD player, features a built in Wi-Fi, and with Linux technology, can even act as a computer connected to the television. This well makes up for lack of high demand gaming titles, and poorer online gaming experiences. It starts at $400, but for people who don't have a computer, or a Blue Ray player, this can be a reasonable price.

You can find all of these gaming platforms online and at many electronics retailers. If you are not familiar with gaming platforms, you can find much more detailed information online; each company has their own website.
